Using Snapchat Geofilters for Your Business

Snapchat is a rapidly growing social network that allows its users to take pictures (Snaps) and post them to their Story or send them to their friends directly. It is unique because the Snaps disappear from your Story after 24 hours, and disapper instantly after being viewed when sent directly to a friend.

According to their website, Snapchat reaches 41% of 18-34 year olds daily. That is a huge chunk of the consumer pie, all found in one location. Adding another social network can be daunting, but it can also be well worth it. An easy way to incorporate Snapchat into your social media marketing is by using their custom Geofilters.

What are Geofilters?

From Snapchat's website, "Geofilters are location-based overlays that users can apply to their Snaps."

When a user takes a picture, they are able to add these filters, then share that picture with their friends through direct messages or their story.

What does that mean for your business?

When you create a Geofilter, you choose where the filter will be available and for how long. This is also how they price your filter. If you are hosting a special event at your shop, you can create a special filter, just for that event. You can feature your logo and business name in the filter, and when a customer uses the filter and shares their Snap, they are essentially advertising for your business in a very visable way.

There are guidelines that you must follow when creating your Geofilter and it must be approved by Snapchat before it will become live. They suggest making something visually compelling that users will want to use and share with their friends. There are also size guideline, and the graphics shouldn't cover too much of the screen. These filters are fairly inexpensive, and Snapchat will provide you with some metrics so you can see how your filter performed.

If Snapchat hasn't been on your social media radar, you should consider trying it out! In the mean time, follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest to stay up to date with the latest trends and tips for everything Wedding and Party!
