Instagram is a social network that allows people to upload photos and videos and share them with their followers. You can like, comment, and tag other users in posts and even send messages to other users.
Unlike Facebook, Instagram is all mobile based. You can view users' profiles and posts on a computer, but you can't post from one. You have to use the app on a smartphone or tablet to post to your Instagram account.
This blog will walk you though the basics of creating a post for your Instagram account.
You can scroll through the News Feed by swiping up and down on the screen. The menu bar (highlighted in red) found at the bottom of your screen will help you get to several different locations in the app. Each icon has a different function.
House Icon- This is your home button and will take you back to the News Feed.
Magnifying Glass- Search for usernames, hashtags, and locations, etc.
Plus Sign- Use to create a post.
Heart- Displays your notifications.
Profile Picture- Takes you to your profile.
To create your post, hit the plus sign. You'll then be able to choose from taking a photo or video, or posting a picture or video from your phone's photo gallery.
To navigate through your posting options, swipe right for the photo gallery or swipe left for video. You can also tap the words at the bottom of the screen.
If you're uploading a photo from you phone's gallery, just swipe to the gallery and the photos from your phone will display.
Whether you are taking your own video or uploading one from your gallery, Instagram only allows video that is up to 60 seconds long. If your video is longer than 60 seconds, Instagram will let you trim your video to the correct length.
After you've chosen or taken a photo or video, hit the next button in the upper right corner. From here, Instagram gives you options for editing and adding filters to your photo/video. After you're done editing, hit next once again.
Now you are almost ready to share your first Instagram post with the world! To finish up your post, add an interesting caption and your location (if you want). You can also select other social media networks and the same post will automatically be shared on those. After you've done these last few steps, hit Share and your post will be published!
