Get Social! What to Post on Social Media

Love it or hate it, social media is a big part of our society. That means it should also play a big role in your business. A strong online presence isn’t complete without social media, and the better your content on social media, the more likely you are to create brand awareness, reach new customers, build relationships, and increase potential leads.

As important as social media can be, lots of businesses tend to put it at the bottom of the priority list. Running a business is hard enough, and social media can be demanding and requires a lot of content generation to keep your audience interested. Don’t be discouraged, though! We’re here to help you find the best content and the most effective way to post for your business.

what to post

By far the most challenging part of social media is the content that you post. What you share will depend on what kind of business you run and what kind of engagement you’re looking for. A good rule of thumb is to post content that is relevant to your industry. Tips and tricks, important statistics, pictures, or videos of your products and services are all great ways to share a little bit about your business with your followers. Interactive posts like quizzes or polls are great for bumping your engagement. Sharing any deals or promotions for your business are also good options for content; the same goes for any giveaways or upcoming conventions or engagements you might have planned! Don’t be afraid to have fun with your content! Memes, TikTok video trends, and behind-the-scenes looks are all creative ways to keep up with trends and give a more personal approach to your social media. When it comes down to it, almost anything can be content.

how to post

One of the great things about social media is you can choose what platform works best for your business. Every platform, or app, is a little different and will need different kinds of attention. While they all live under the same umbrella, posting can vary greatly for each. For example, Twitter limits you on how many characters you can share per post. It’s also a more fast-paced app than Facebook, which is a great option for more conversational content. If you have a lot of products you want to show off or have a lot of visuals with your services to work with, Instagram or TikTok would be a great option as they require pictures or video. You don’t have to use ALL of the platforms available! Pick the ones that will work with the content you plan to share, and what you feel most comfortable working with. If you don’t like the idea of making videos you probably aren’t going to do it as often as you need to to get the most out of that platform.

when to post

The key to social media is consistency. Even if you don’t get much engagement on your posts, keeping a regular schedule will help with your overall SEO ranking and visibility online. We mentioned each social media platform will have different needs, and that also goes for your posting schedule. Some platforms do better with multiple posts a day, while that amount of posting would have a negative impact on others. Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram stories or reels would all do well with multiple posts a day. Facebook and basic Instagram posts would do better with less posting so you don’t flood your followers and cause them to lose interest! If you’re unsure, posting at least 2-4 times a week is a good place to start.

There are a few more things you should keep in mind when it comes to social media! Make sure to engage with your followers by replying to comments or shares. Keep your branding consistent, even if your content is different. Including your logo on your posts and maintaining your brand colors can go a long way in helping further establish your brand recognition.
