Generation Z has been left out of many businesses' target audience because many consider this group of consumers too young to market to. We believe this is quite the mistake since the oldest members of this generation were born in 1997. Many of these consumers are already in the workforce or close to it. Excluding Generation Z from your marketing efforts could be a grave mistake, so we have a few suggestions for how your business can reach these new potential customers.
Give Them A Purpose
Gen Z has been known to support companies that help or support an environmental, political, or social cause—more so than any other generation before them. If you want to get their attention—and money—show them what your business is passionate about outside of sales. For example, give a portion of your proceeds to a local animal shelter, or sponsor a Race for the Cure event in your community. By illustrating your ability to give back, you’ll earn the attention and respect of this upcoming generation, making it more likely for them to purchase from you.
It’s 2019, which means if you’re not on the Internet and mobile-friendly, you more than likely won’t be able to reach a younger audience. Gen Z is constantly online, so optimizing your website for mobile devices is essential. It’s also important to keep a consistent and relevant social media presence, which is where these consumers choose to spend a significant amount of their free time.
Just Be Yourself
Businesses nowadays have gotten into the routine of speaking to their consumers with sales language. While there is a time and a place for that, Gen Z is looking for companies that talk to them in an authentic and relatable way. They would rather support a business that is personable than one who constantly pushes products. Find ways to communicate with this younger generation that will help develop long-lasting relationships—and in turn, long-lasting sales.
Get the attention of Generation Z before your competitors with these tips. By understanding their wants and needs, and how they prefer to communicate, you’ll be much more successful in gaining them as new customers.
