In November, we went to Wedding MBA in Las Vegas and had an absolute blast! This month, we are headed to San Diego for The Special Event. We are so excited to see everyone there, and we can't wait for this show. But, we do know that there are some things that we have learned from going to Wedding MBA that we think you should know about before going to conventions- everything from what to bring to what you should wear!
There will be some very helpful classes that you will want to take notes on. The best thing to do is prep ahead of time and bring a pen and notebook with you. If you want to go a little less old school, then bring your tablet or laptop with you. Some of these conventions will set up their rooms like a classroom so you'll have a spot to place your note-taking tools.
You will be at the convention center for a long time, and you don't know when you will have breaks to go get something to drink. Also, this means you can save money on buying something to drink. Remember that at some of these conventions, prices for a normal bottle of water is a bit higher. With a refillable water bottle, you can find a water fountain and fill up for free!
You're going to need something that you can carry your notebook, laptop, pens, purse or wallet, and anything else you need. Having a good tote or backpack makes life a lot easier! We strongly suggest you take a backpack with you, but if that's not your style that's totally understandable. Backpacks are just easier to carry, not run into anyone, and one shoulder won't be killing you by the end of the day.
You never know what the temperature will be like in the showroom. It could be really hot or extremely cold. Whatever the case may be it doesn't hurt to have a light jacket or cardigan. It's hard to concentrate on what you are doing when you are freezing in a room.
There are some convention centers that will have a charging station available for you. Unfortunately, there may be time when all the spots are taken and you won't be able to charge your devices. A portable charger will allow you to be mobile and still have the ability to use your devices all the time.
You will either be doing a lot of walking or a lot of standing. Yes, there will be the classes that you can sit down in, but you will also be on your feet quite a lot. If you have to wear heels, take comfortable ones.
These are just a few pointers we have before you start packing for your next convention! If you just remember these tips, you should have a great experience.
Great tips! Exactly what I always bring.
